Hey, look at that! A new comic! It sure looks awesome, you should go read it.
So, you may have noticed a lack of updates recently. Though unlike other times I fail to update it wasn't because I was slacking off. I spent the last month working on a short comic for The Official Short Comic of Bitter Tears and Smiles. The idea was to take 1 month and make a complete 5 to 10 page comic. (If you would like to see some of the other entries skip to page 14 of the thread, they start there. You'll have to search around a bit for the links but they're not hard to find.) I did mine as a sequel to another short comic I did back in college (I'll get that one up on the website too, eventually). I have to confess though I didn't completely make the deadline for the challenge. I had all the inks done, but I didn't have time to finish coloring it. So I posted it in Black and White and then finished coloring it over the next few days. Anyway, I think it came out pretty good, especially considering the time limit on it. I hope you enjoy it as well.
Okay, so there have been a couple changes going on to the comic. (Again, yes I know. But that's the great thing about doing a webcomic, I can change it however I want and no one can fire me.) First off, I managed to get a job, which means a lot more money (compared to the "no money" I had previously been making) and a lot less time for the comic than I had hoped. So in an attempted to speed up production, I have started doing the comic entirely on my Wacom tablet. Saves a lot of time with inking and scanning and such, but it's taking some getting used to. Hence the drop in quality. I have also joined in the test run of the The Laziest Grind of them all, which forces me (kinda) to work faster to get comics done, leaving less time for fine tuning. Hopefully as I get used to this new way of making the comic the quality will improve, but right now I'm just concentrating on actually doing comics. Thanks to those of you who continue to read despite my less that regular updates.
I graduated from college recently, so the past few weeks have been crazy with my job hunt. Hence the few updates. Hopefully once I find a job and get into a set schedule I'll be able to get back to regularly working on the comic.
I've also redone the comics layout (as you may have notices) to make the layout larger. If you notice any glitches with the new layout, please let me know.
Trying our a new shading style. Today's comic is too big to fit in the main page because it looked like crap when I tried to shrink it down. I haven't quite got the style down yet but I'm still fooling around with it. I'm thinking of testing out using some color and stuff so expect to see a whole bunch of style changes over the next couple of updates before I settle on something.
Well, it's done now. and thank God.
Putting something like this together is not cheep though, so we are looking for people to donate a little something here and there so we can reach our goal of $2,000.00 (see link above). All sponsors will be listed in the book, and thanked for their help. Also, we will be selling ad space in the book for as a way to help earn the money. For more information go here.
I'm really glad with how todays page came out. I haven't really been liking the last couple but this one came out pretty much just the way I wanted. Because of the grind, people have been giving me a lot og good advice about what to do to improve the comic and I think it's paying off.
NOTE: I should clarify. The contest starts on Monday, but because my update schedule is Sunday, Wednesday, Friday my next update wont actually be until this Wednesday. Also, the grind page is finally finished thanks to the efforts of Net and Komi. So now you can check out all the lazy bastards that are participating.
IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! On Friday September 1st, the Cornstalker Collective officially came into existence. What is it? Well, basically it's a group of webcomic artists who all hung out on the Cornstalker forum and one day someone said "Hey, you know what would be cool? If we got together and make a collective where we could all promote each others comics!" And thanks to the efforts of some very cool people (Namely Matt Johnson, R. L. Peterson and Daniel Orta) it has finally come into existence! So go check it out and read all the comics on it. They are all very cool and I'm not just saying that because I'm one of them. (Although we all know how extraordinary cool I am)
Also, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that I won't be updating again until September 11th. The good news is that it's because I'm building up a buffer so I can participate in the Lazy grin 2.0! What dose that mean? It means that I'm going to be updating 3 times a week for as long as I can! Knowing me that won't be long, but I'm going to try my damndest. (The fact that it's starting on September 11th is not related to 9-11, it just happens to be the second Monday of the month). I've got 3 comics done already and am working on a 4th, so I should last at least a week.
